BARRY GERAGHTY HAS been ruled out of the 2016 Punchestown Festival after receiving a 30-day ban over an incident at Limerick last week.
Geraghty, who was aboard 7/4 favourite Noble Emperor in the two mile handicap hurdle, was never in the race as the Barry Cash mount Velocity Boy (2/1) raced into an early 20 length lead and won by a comfortable 11 lengths.

Geraghty had moved into second approaching the second last and attempted to close on the leader but could only get within 11 lengths having lost a shoe.
Every rider in the race, with the exception of Cash, was interviewed by the stewards afterwards, but only Geraghty picked up a punishment while the horse was also banned for 60 days and trainer Tony Martin fined €3,000.
Geraghty was punished under rule 212, not allowing a horse to run on its merits, but with a ban starting on 17 April — meaning he would miss Punchestown — it’s very likely he will appeal.
It’s also likely his argument will be that Noble Emperor is a horse who tends to run keen and that he was simply following Martin’s instructions to get him settled early and deliver him late on.
However, with Velocity Boy having dominated the running, he was unable to mount a real challenge.
